1. Service overview
Copilot adds AI assistance inside Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams. It works over your own files and messages within the MSU Microsoft 365 tenant, under the university's enterprise data-protection terms.
2. Intended users & access
Eligible users
Faculty and staff with an assigned Copilot license.
Authentication
University SSO with conditional-access policies.
Cost
Department-funded license.
3. Approved uses
- Drafting and summarizing documents and email
- Building spreadsheets, analyses, and slides
- Recapping Teams meetings you participate in
4. Prohibited uses
- Processing Confidential or regulated records
- Using output as the sole basis for decisions about students or employees
- Introducing data you do not already have authorized access to
5. Data handling & classification
Maximum data class
Internal. Do not process Confidential or regulated data.
Permissions
Copilot can reach content you already have access to — keep file and mailbox permissions tidy.
Training use
Not used to train foundation models, per enterprise terms.
6. Limitations & risks
Outputs may be inaccurate or incomplete and must be verified. Quality depends on the documents Copilot can reach, and behavior may change as the vendor updates its models.
